I think it's normal for a cast of characters to change like this, especially in a TV series - the actors are getting a feel for what they want to bring to the part - I do find it funny that they all changed so much from the original pilot episode though

I think it's ok in English to say "invented a sandwich" with the implied meaning that it's a new type - but I guess you have to speak English natively to understand that - so, I think it's ok either way
