Writers ''killed'' him of fast. The character didn't get much positive feedback from viewers. I think that was the case.
I can't blame them though, the other characters were so much stronger compered to Seven IMHO.

Who played Als' dad in this episode? What did his face look like? Actor named Cliff Bemis says IMDb.com. I think there was more of the back of his head shown. They didn't show his face directly i recall. Maybe someone can post a picture of that. Hmm...but there was also one episode where Ed O'Neill...
